For gamers who have been diligently polishing their boomsticks in preparation for Saber Interactive's upcoming co-op shooter Evil Dead: The Game, it now seems that you'll have much more time to do so. In fact, you've got easily six months, because the developers have just announced that they're delaying its release all the way till February next year

Earlier today, Saber Interactive published a tweet announcing the delay and provided two main reasons for it. Naturally, the first is a rather "textbook" justification - the studio mentions that Evil Dead could do with a little more "polish", and the assumption is that they'll be spending the better half of their now-extended time working on that. However, what's really interesting is the other reason that they've thrown out.

Apparently, it would seem that although the game was announced as a co-op shooter, Saber has decided to go the extra mile and develop a single-player mode.for it as well. We certainly don't have any complaints about that, and if the delay does ensure we get "the ultimate Evil Dead experience" that Saber is promising us, then we're all for it.

Apart from timing constraints related to development, there is also the consideration that the delay might have been motivated (at least partially) by "the competition", and by that we mean Turtle Rock Studios' Back 4 Blood. With the latter scheduled to release in mid-October (barring any delays), releasing a similar title around the same time might effectively "dilute" the community's excitement, potentially resulting in a losing situation for both studios. Nevertheless, the common denominator for both titles is that we'll have to make do with playing something else in the meantime, and it just so happens to be called "the waiting game".
