He can slice.

He can dice.

And although he most certainly can put some space between your body and your head, he simply chooses not to.

Starting from next Friday (18 Jun), fans of Nobuhiro Watsuki's acclaimed manga series Rurouni Kenshin will be able to catch the first and fourth instalments of the film adaptations on Netflix. Specifically, both Rurouni Kenshin: Origins and Rurouni Kenshin: The Final will be available for viewing, and you don't exactly need an excuse to watch (or re-watch) the former assassin's adventures.

As for the cast and crew, you should already be able to guess who's doing what if you've stuck around long enough. Both films are directed by the one and only Keishi Otomo, and star Takeru Satoh and Emi Takei as Himura Kenshin and Kamiya Kaoru respectively.

For those who haven't checked them out before, all of the films are based on different story arcs within the popular samurai manga, although it's worth noting that they aren't carbon copy reproductions made for the silver screen. Some instalments, like the aforementioned Rurouni Kenshin: The Final explore a rather different narrative when compared to its corresponding arc in the manga, though most of the inspirations do come from Watsuki-sensei's work.

As its title implies, Origins takes a look at the pacifist swordsman's background and past, and follows his journey just after the end of the Bakumatsu war in 1868. Meanwhile, The Final explores a narrative arc where Himura Kenshin is pursued by Yukishiro Enishi, the brother of his deceased first wife, who is looking to take revenge on the wandering swordsman for the death of his sister.
