Rumour: New iPad Pro to be ready only early next year

Don't hold your breath if you are waiting for the new iPad Pro.

According to noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPad Pro will only be ready early next year.

Kuo also said that he expects the new iPad Pro to feature a time-of-flight (ToF) camera system.

A ToF camera system uses lasers or LEDs to measure the environment it is in. It would be able to provide an accurate 3D map of its surroundings. With this information, developers can offer improved AR applications.

Kuo also said the rumoured 16-inch MacBook Pro will use new scissor mechanism switches for its keyboard. He also said that future Mac notebooks will switch to this new mechanism to improve reliability, but only expect these notebooks to come next year.

The existing butterfly switch mechanism that Apple uses in its existing Mac notebooks have been problematic, to say the least, and a switch to an all-new mechanism makes a lot of sense.

Finally, Kuo also said that Apple will launch a compact and affordable iPhone — the successor to the iPhone SE — in the first quarter of 2020.
