Rumour: High Spec EOS R camera coming in February

Are we getting a high megapixel count EOS R camera soon? CanonRumors seems to think so, and they've dubbed it the "EOS Rs" for now. Here’s the specifications they’ve gathered from their sources:

  • 75MP full-frame CMOS
  • Sensor “focused on the dynamic range”
  • Frames per second “… Sounded similar to the EOS R
  • DIGIC 9
  • Dual Card Slots
  • Joystick the same as the EOS-1D X Mark III
  • Larger and higher resolution EVF than the EOS R
  • Fully articulating LCD screen
  • Fully weather-sealed
  • Similar ergonomics as the EOS R (No touch bar)

There aren’t much specifics given to these, but the most curious part would obviously be the 75-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor that’s focused on dynamic range. In general, pushing for dynamic range means having larger photosites, which means a corresponding drop in resolution. If what’s reported is true, this must mean that Canon has come up with much more efficient way of handling light, so the results of that would definitely be interesting to see. On a side note, a 75-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera capable of shooting at up to 8 frames-per-second would be very impressive, and a larger and higher resolution EVF (Electronic viewfinder) would certainly be welcome.

Let’s see what comes next year.
