Robot vacuum maker Neato Robotics is shutting down its business after 18 years in the industry.
In an email statement to TechHive, a Vorwek Group spokeperson confirmed that Neato is "now being closed down despites lots of restructuring efforts" and it had failed to achieve the self-defined economic goals for many years. 98 Neato employees are said to be affected by the closure.
While Neato is no longer in business, Vorwek will continue to support customers with a 14-person team by maintaining the security of the infrastucture of Neato's cloud services for at least five years". Spare parts and repair service are also committed to customers for at least five years.
Neato was established in 2005 and its robot cleaners were known for their signature D-shaped design. Neato robots were also among the first to use LiDAR technology for mapping rooms. The Vorwek Group acquired Neato in 2017, but the latter operated independently.
