Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G series phones land in Singapore

Xiaomi today (11 May 2023) announced the Singapore launch of its Redmi Note 12 Pro series, with two models availing themselves in Singapore: the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G

According to the brand, these phones cherry-pick popular flagship-grade features and layer them into a midrange handset, combining affordability and practicality.

Shared features between both Redmi Note 12 Pro models

Both Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and Pro+ 5G pack 6.67-inch 120Hz “Flow AMOLED” displays rated at Full HD resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels), supporting Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos content.

Flow AMOLED, according to Xiaomi, is “made of advanced flexible materials” for heightened brightness and contrast, which means it’s likely flexible P-OLED that supports 100% DPI-P3 colour gamut. A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the panels on both models.

They also share the same critical features like NFC, an IR blaster, side fingerprint unlocking, AI Face Unlocking, dual 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 compatibility, and Bluetooth 5.2.

While both models pack a 5,000mAh battery, it’s the Pro+ variant that has 120W HyperCharge wired fast charging. The Pro version goes up to 67W – not as high as Pro+, but still plenty more than most non-Chinese smartphones.

Interestingly, both models also use the same processor – MediaTek Dimensity 1080 – and the same grade of RAM and storage (LPDDR4X, UFS 2.2), so there’s no differentiation in those places too. The real difference lies in their main cameras.

Triple AI cameras, Pro+ gets 200MP OIS

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G’s headlining feature is its “flagship-grade” 200MP main camera with OIS, 1/1.4-inch sensor size, 0.56μm pixel size, and both 4-in-1 and 16-in-1 pixel binning. As far as we know, two major brands (Omnivision and Samsung) can make 200MP mobile imaging sensors with that pixel size. However, in its official release, Xiaomi did not specify where they sourced the sensor.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G didn’t lose out much either with its Sony IMX766 sensor backing its 50MP main camera. It’s also capable of OIS, has a low f/1.88 aperture, and offers 4-in-1 pixel binning for brighter imagery.

Otherwise, both phones have a 13MP ultrawide (119° FOV) and a 2MP macro camera, on top of software algorithms to improve photo-taking experiences. Together, they round off the Redmi Note 12 Pro series’ triple AI camera systems.
