Google Nexus devices traditionally come in two colors - black and white - and it seems that the LG Nexus 5 will come in a new color.

Photos leaked by ChimeraRevo show a red Nexus 5 with the color extended to the sides. This is rather strange as the white Nexus 5 does not follow this design trait.

Android Police took a closer look at some of the photos and found some IMEI numbers on the boxes are visible. According to Android Police, all the IMEI numbers are connected to an old Samsung feature phone.

Despite the dubious IMEI numbers, it is likely that the Nexus 5 will be released in a red variant. Anton Chernov uploaded some photos of the red Nexus 5 in its original packaging and it seems like the real deal. He also claims that the red Nexus 5 will be available on Google Play Store next month.

There is a recent trend of smartphone makers releasing red variants of their flagship devices. HTC unveiled the red One in August 2013 while LG recently announced a red G2. Most Nokia Lumia devices also come in red such as the Lumia 1520, 1320, 920, 820, 720 and 520.

With the Lunar New Year coming up in a few days, you may want to consider getting a gold or red smartphone. Check out the list of gold and red smartphones available in the market that you can buy to usher in the Year of the Horse!
