If you are using an iPhone X, you might want to handle the phone with more care as there is reportedly a cracking issue with the rear camera lens.

According to 9to5Mac, there has been an increasing number of users who reported that their rear camera lens of the iPhone X cracked for no apparent reason. To make matters worse, some users claim the cracked camera lens are not covered under the device warranty and they need to pay $549 for a full device replacement.

Some users attributed the cracking of the camera lens to temperature changes while others are puzzled why the sapphire lens - which is supposedly extremely strong and scratch resistant - could crack with no impact or drop. It is unclear how widespread this issue is and whether Apple is going to respond to these reports.

Previously, the sapphire lens cover of the iPhone 7 came under scrutiny after lab tests showed that it is less durable than traditional watch sapphire. Apple responded by stating that it is indeed using sapphire glass on the camera lens, and “it achieved the hardness and purity results expected from sapphire”.
