Ready for VR? Take the SteamVR performance test now

With the HTC Vive virtual reality headset set to hit stores in the near future, Steam has released a performance test tool to help users determine if their systems can comfortably run virtual reality content.

Running virtual reality content requires serious graphics power because the system needs to render two scenes and render them quickly enough to make it all seem seamless.

Otherwise, users could get sick looking at stuttering images or images that don't seem to line up properly.

According to Steam, 90fps is the holy grail and the performance test tool will also test to see if it can tune the graphics settings up to the "recommended level."

After the test is completed, the tool will generate a score and rate it according to Low/Medium/High/Very High. It also tells users how many percentage of the tested frames dipped below the 90fps mark and even tells you how much of it is because performance was bottlenecked by the CPU.

All in all, it's a really nifty tool especially for those who are looking to plonk down the US$799 required for the HTC Vive headset. You can download the tool by hitting the link below.
