Razer is deploying vending machines to provide Singaporeans with free face masks

Once approved you can use the Razer Pay app to get your masks

Razer is establishing a network of surgical mask vending machines across Singapore to provide one free surgical mask to every adult Singapore resident (aged 16 years and above). Razer estimates that they will be giving away around five million masks during this initiative.

20 vending machines will be deployed island-wide by June 1st before the Circuit Breaker is expected to lift. Locations include all malls of Frasers Property Retail and JustCo co-working centres in and near the Central Business District. Additional vending machines in more locations throughout the country are expected to be rolled out shortly.

Using Razer Pay for authentication

Mask allocation for Singaporeans will be done via Razer Fintech’s mobile wallet app, Razer Pay. According to the company, once a user has registered his details on the app, it’s unique electronic Know Your Customer solution will issue a QR coupon code upon successful verification of the user’s identity. The verified user can then scan the code at the vending machines to collect his or her free mask. Razer Pay’s verification system is fraud-free, which would ensure that every verified Singapore resident will be issued a mask. The app will also provide locations of the vending machines.

Beta testing of the vending machines and app will be carried out over the next few weeks before the June 1st rollout.

People interested can participate in the beta program through the following steps:

  • Download the Razer Pay app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store
  • E-Verify your account (may take up to one working day) and sign up for the beta program
  • Once approved, you will receive a mask coupon
  • Scan your coupon at a vending machine to collect your free mask

Building on local corporate support

Razer was one of the first companies to declare initiatives to deal with Covid-19. They also called upon the Singapore corporate community to join them in the fight.

Local telcos have also launched initiatives to keep people occupied when at home and reached out to underprivileged kids who need help with Home Based Learning.

Thus far, while there are a number of corporate and telco led initiatives, Razer is the only company in Singapore giving masks away in such a manner.
