In late 2015, the Raspberry Pi Foundation launched the US$5 Raspberry Pi Zero. It’s a great little computer at a great price, save for the fact that if you want it to connect to the internet or Bluetooth peripherals wirelessly, you inevitably have to also shop for a few dongles, which adds to the cost.

The just-announced Raspberry Pi Zero W is basically the Pi Zero with wireless LAN and Bluetooth connectivity. And it costs US$10. To get that few extras, the Pi Zero W uses the same Cypress CYW43438 wireless chip found in the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.

Here’s a summary of its specs:

  • 1GHz, single-core CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • Mini-HDMI port
  • Micro-USB On-The-Go port
  • Micro-USB power
  • HAT-compatible 40-pin header
  • Composite video and reset headers
  • CSI camera connector
  • 802.11n wireless LAN
  • Bluetooth 4.0

The folks at the Raspberry Pi Foundation has also worked with Kinneir Dufort and T-Zero to create an official injection-moulded case for the Pi Zero and Zero W. The new case shares the same design language as the official case for the Raspberry Pi 3, and features three interchangeable lids, a short camera adapter flexi, and a set of rubber feet so that your little computer doesn’t slide off the desk.

Time to build things, people.
