Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 670 delivers faster AI for midrange phones
Qualcomm just announced its latest Snapdragon 600 series mobile platform, the Snapdragon 670.
The Snapdragon 670 is designed with AI as its main focus; it uses the Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP which is typically found in the higher-end mobile platforms. The 3rd generation AI engine is also integrated with the Snapdragon 670, which is stated to deliver up to 1.8x AI performance than the Snapdragon 660.
Its Kryo 460 CPU consist of two performance cores (of up to 2.0GHz) and six efficiency cores (of up to 1.7GHz) which deliver up to 15% higher performance than the Snapdragon 660. It is also the first 600-tier platform to have the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP for noise reduction, image stabilization and active depth sensing. The Spectra 250 ISP is capable of supporting up to 25MP (single camera) and 16MP (dual cameras), and uses 30% less power when recording 4K videos.
As for mobile speeds, the Snapdragon 670 is equipped with the X12 LTE modem which can support download speeds of up to 600Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps. Other benefits of the X12 LTE modem include automatic switching between LTE and Wi-Fi, and better voice and video calls.
Commercial devices powered by the Snapdragon 670 are expected to be available later this year.
