Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+ for next-gen smartwatches

Qualcomm just unveiled its latest mobile platform for smartwatches, the Snapdragon Wear 4100.

The Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform has two variants, the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ and 4100. The flagship Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform has a main SoC (SDM429w or SDA429w), the Always-On (AON) Co-Processor (QCC1110) and companion chips (PMIC, RF for modem/GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and RFFE). The Snapdragon 4100 platform has the main SoC and the companion chips.

The main SoC is built on a 12nm process with quad-core A53 processors, Adreno 504, LPDDR3 memory (750MHz) and dual ISPs for support up to 16MP cameras. Compared to the Snapdragon Wear 3100, the Sanpdragon Wear 4100+ can deliver more than 85% better performance which includes faster app launches, smoother and more responsive interface, and richer photo and video experiences. 

The AON Co-Processor supports richer offloaded experiences with partitioned memory and performance to support up to 64K colours, continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, step counting, alarms and haptics. The Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform is also more power efficient with more than 25% power reductions across key use cases.

The Snapdragon Wear 4100 platforms support both the Android Open Source Platform (AOSP) and the Wear OS. Both variants are available and shipping now. Companies such as imoo and Mobvoi Inc. are expected to announce their next generation smartwatches based on the new platforms in the coming weeks and months.
