It has been months since mobile devices equipped with the Snapdragon 820 processor hit the consumer market and Qualcomm finds that it is timely to announce a new higher tier processor, the Snapdragon 821.

While the Snapdragon 821 is still built on a 14nm processor and utilizes the same 4 Kryo cores (2x high performance, 2x low power) as the Snapdragon 820, the former boasts a higher clock speed of 2.4GHz for the high performance cluster cores and 2GHz for the low power cluster cores. In addition, the Snapdragon 821 has a better GPU that is clocked at a higher frequency of 650MHz. All these enhancements translate to an estimated 10% performance increase over the Snapdragon 820.

Qualcomm states that consumer devices powered by the Snapdragon 821 will arrive in the second half of the year which is likely to include the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and the pair of HTC-made Nexus devices
