Barely three months after unveiling the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, Qualcomm today announced a "+" variant to deliver "more realistic, detailed experiences in MR and VR." 

One of the key highlights of the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 is the support for 4.3K per eye resolution at 90fps. Qualcomm says the 4.3K spatial computing will deliver "spectacularly clear visuals" to room-scale screens, life-size overlays and virtual desktops.

Coupled with support for 12 or more concurrent cameras, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 is able to track users, their movements, the environment around them, and merge the physical and digital spaces.

In terms of performance, Qualcomm states the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 boasts 15% higher GPU frequency and 20% higher CPU frequency compared to the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. When compared to the Snapdragon XR 2 Gen 1, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 offers 8x better AI performance.

Other specs include 12 ms full-colour video see-through, Wi-Fi 7/6E/6 connectivity and a next-generation Spectra ISP.

Not surprisingly, Samsung will be collaborating with Qualcomm and Google to bring "new experiences" to the Android ecosystem. The South Korean also promises to "create the best-in-class XR experiences for Galaxy users".

While Qualcomm did not reveal a time frame on when the first devices with Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 will launch, it is likely that Samsung will make some announcement at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event.
