Qualcomm announces new Snapdragon 653, 626, and 427 smartphone processors

At the Qualcomm 4/5G Summit 2016 in Hong Kong, Qualcomm announced a series of upgrades for their mid-range Snapdragon 600 SoCs, as well as their entry-level Snapdragon 400 SoCs. The Snapdragon 653, 626, and 427 processors are now available to smartphone makers who are building mid to entry-level smartphones, boasting better performance and support for faster mobile data and dual camera builds.

 

 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 653

The Snapdragon 653 succeeds the Snapdragon 652. Upgrades include:

  • X9 LTE support (up to 300Mbps downlink speeds and 150Mbps uplink speeds)
  • 10% higher CPU performance than its predecessor (the 653 can be clocked up to 1.95GHz)
  • Dual Camera support
  • Support for up to 8GB RAM

 

 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 626

The Snapdragon 626 succeeds the Snapdragon 625. Upgrades include:

  • X9 LTE support
  • 10% higher CPU performance than its predecessor
  • Dual Camera support
  • Qualcomm TruSignal antenna-boosting technology

 

 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 427

The Snapdragon 427 succeeds the Snapdragon 425. Upgrades include:

  • Support for integrated DSP
  • Dual Camera support
  • Qualcomm TruSignal antenna-boosting technology

 

The new SoCs are also supported by other add-ons made available by Qualcomm, and OEMs can choose to include support for the following features at their discretion.

Phone makers can also have an easier time deploying devices with Qualcomm's hardware, as they now offer Global Pass for phone makers.

The new processors are currently available to OEMs, and Qualcomm expects that the Snapdragon 653 and 626 to enter consumer markets by the end of 2016. The Snapdragon 427 will emerge in markets come Q1 2017.
