PSA: You need a 27W or higher USB-C power adapter to get 14W wireless charging from the MagSafe Duo Charger

As noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has just updated the MagSafe Duo Charger’s product page with charging rates you’d get from different power adapters.

According to the updated info, using a 20W USB-C power adapter on the two-device charger will give you a wireless charging rate of up to 11W, less than the 15W if you were to use the single-device MagSafe charger with the same power brick.

However, you can get faster wireless charging if you use a 27W or higher USB-C power adapter — but the top speed is still limited to 14W.

In short, the MagSafe Duo Charger — which comes with a 1m USB-C to Lightning cable but not a power adapter — already costs S$199. And if you want to use it to its full potential, you need to set aside some money to get at least a 27W USB-C adapter. Apple itself doesn’t make a 27W adapter, but it does make a 30W one and that costs S$65. So you’re looking at a total damage of S$264.
