PSA: HP printers falling prey to the BSOD
You may want to disconnect your HP printer from the Internet if you don’t want to fall victim to an unfortunate software update from HP that is causing its OfficeJet printers to become unusable.
Affected models apparently include the entire OfficeJet Pro 9020 series. These include the OfficeJet Pro 9022e, OfficeJet Pro 9025e, OfficeJet Pro 9020e AIO, and OfficeJet Pro 9025e AIO. Some reports also include the HP OfficeJet 8010e series of printers as being affected as well.
Apparently, after downloading the update, the printer’s LCD starts to show a blue screen with the error code “83C0000B” on it. With the bug affecting users in multiple countries, there is currently no remedy for the issue as any factory resetting of an OfficeJet printer needs to be done via the touchscreen. This means that so far, the only solution has been to bring the printer into HP.
We reached out to HP Singapore for a comment and was told by a spokesperson:
Our teams are working diligently to address the blue screen error affecting a limited number HP OfficeJet Pro 9020e printers. We are recommending customers experiencing the error to contact our customer support team for assistance https://support.hp.com.
Now we have nothing against HP printers. In fact, we like HP printers. So much so that we voted the HP OfficeJet 9010e as the Best Value SOHO Printer for this year so hopefully the company can overcome this blip soon.
