The first time anyone saw the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS was at E3 earlier last month in Las Vegas.

The choice of venue is quite odd given that automakers usually make their big announcements at the traditional big motoring shows in Geneva, Paris, Frankfurt, Tokyo, or Detroit.

However, with automakers keen to win over new and younger fans, many have taken to games in an attempt to reach a younger audience. Despite the car's appearance at E3, Porsche declined to give specific details about the new 911 GT2 RS.

Fortunately, Porsche officially unveiled the 911 GT2 RS at the recently concluded Goodwood Festival of Speed and now we know more about this hardcore 911.

The 911 GT2 RS will be powered by a twin turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six producing 691hp and 750nm of torque, making this the most powerful production 911 ever.

To put these numbers into perspective, that's over 100hp more than Porsche's current power king - the  911 Turbo S. 100hp, that's the power output of a small car.

To achieve its prodigious power output, the 911 GT2 RS has larger turbochargers, a freer-breathing titanium exhaust system, and a special charge-air cooler that reduces intake temperature to increase boost.

Like its predecessors, power will go solely to the rear wheels. To handle all this power, the new 911 GT2 RS will also get the fattest rear tires on any 911 ever - 325 section rears to be exact.

Flat-out, the 911 GT2 RS will lit its rear wheels and do 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds. Top speed is nearly 340km/h, making this the fastest 911 ever too.

If you want more performance, Porsche will ever sell you a special Weissach package that reduces overall kerb weight by using a carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber suspension components, and ultra-light magnesium wheels. It'll save you 30kg and lighten your wallet considerably in the process because the Weissach package will set you back a cool S$121,058 (according to the online Porsche configurator).

No word yet on local availability, but the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS already has a local list price beginning from S$1,211,688. Best starting saving up, then.
