If you think about it, Singapore is the perfect place to drive an EV (electric vehicle). Even a round-trip around our island is less than 200km, which means most modern EVs should have more than enough range to make the journey.

The latest EV brand to reach our shores is Polestar. If the name is alien to you, here's a quick history lesson.

Polestar was founded in 1996 and specialised in modifying and racing Volvos. It was eventually acquired by Volvo in 2015, which itself was acquired by Geely in 2010. Now, it is focused on making high-performance EVs.

Only one model will be available and that's the Polestar 2, which is a 5-door compact executive liftback. Two variants are currently available with prices starting at S$214,000 inclusive of COE.

The entry-level model is the Long Range Single Motor which has a single electric model on the front axle and has a claimed range of 540km (WLTP). Power output is 231hp and it can get from 0 to 100km/h in 7.4 seconds.

The flagship model is Long Range Dual Motor which has electric motors on both axles for all-wheel drive. Claimed range is 480km (WLTP) and power output is a whopping 408hp. Claimed 0-100km/h time is 4.7 seconds. This model will set you back S$240,000 inclusive COE.

A third model called the Standard Range Single Motor is expected to join the range sometime in 2022. This has the same 231hp motor as the Long Range Single Motor model but with a smaller capacity battery, giving it a claimed range of 440km (WLTP). This model is expected to cost less than S$200,000.

As you'd expect from a modern EV, the Polestar 2 features extensive driver and safety aids, a high-fidelity audio system, and an in-car infotainment system that's built on Google's Android Automotive OS.

There's also a Polestar app that lets you lock/unlock the car, manage car settings, and even activate the climate control remotely so that it's cool when you get into the car.

If all this sounds enticing to you, you can find out more and book a test drive with Polestar here.
