14 July 2023 update: Pokémon GO Plus + device is now on sale, and we've included the purchase links below for your convenience.
The Pokémon Company announced the availability of its Pokémon Sleep game and a new Pokémon GO Plus + device for Pokémon GO players.
Pokémon GO Plus +
The Pokémon GO Plus + is a Bluetooth Low Energy wearable that succeeds the 2016 Pokémon GO Plus and 2018 Poké Ball Plus.
The device has two main uses. It acts as an assistant for your Pokémon GO base game, which automatically spins any nearby PokéStop checkpoints and automatically attempts to catch Pokémon with regular Poké Balls when you’re out.
Its secondary function is a sleep tracker for the upcoming Pokémon Sleep game, where pressing the button starts and stops sleep tracking for a sleep score.
Another added function is a built-in Pikachu voice assistant that provides audio cues whenever you trigger the Pokémon GO Plus +’s sleep function.
According to The Pokémon Company, Pokémon GO Plus + goes on sale on 14 July 2023.
14 July 2023 update: You can buy the Pokémon GO Plus + in Singapore at S$79.90 via several official channels or partnered retailers. It's available on Shopee (official store) and Lazada (partner store) for the time being. Pokémon GO interest groups in Singapore are also reporting that the device is also available in the Pokémon Center Singapore (located in Changi Jewel).
Pokémon Sleep
As announced in 2019 and showcased in February 2023, Pokémon Sleep is a new augmented reality Pokémon game where the main mechanic relies on the player’s sleep-tracking and sleep score to meet new Pokémon.
The game is available as a phone app for Apple (App Store) and Android (Google Play Store) devices, with pre-registration starting on 6 July 2023.
The Pokémon Company said that your sleeping habits and consistency are key to doing well in the game.
Additionally, users who use Pokémon GO Plus + to play Pokémon Sleep can meet a nightcap-wearing Pikachu. This Pikachu can also become a sixth member of your Pokémon team in Pokémon Sleep, where the game normally allows only teams of five. Not much has been said about this unique Pikachu beyond how it is “different from other helper Pokémon” and being able to only see it on your Pokémon GO Plus + device settings screen.
