We’ve finally got pricing and release date information!
During yesterday’s digital games showcase, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 will cost US$499.99 (around S$680). The PS5 Digital Edition is a whole lot cheaper, clocking in at US$399.99 (around S$544).
The PlayStation 5 consoles will experience slightly staggered release dates globally. Both consoles launch on November 12, 2020 in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea only. They’ll launch for the rest of the world a week later, on November 19 - including Singapore. Sony announced that pre-orders would begin as early as tomorrow, stating that those interested should check with their local retailers.
The PlayStation 5 games showcase showed off a highly impressive slate of launch day titles. Here’s a full list of the console’s launch day exclusives:
Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio) – pre-installed on PS5
Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games / Japan Studio)
Destruction All Stars (Lucid Games / XDEV)
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games)
Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV)
It’s worth noting that as we suspected, next-gen Sony-exclusive games are getting a US$10 price hike. Games like Demon’s Souls and Destruction All Stars will cost US$69.99 (around S$95), up from US$59.99 (around S$81). Surprisingly, Sony also announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure and Horizon Forbidden West will also be playable on PlayStation 4 consoles.
Sony also announced pricing for a bunch of new accessories that launch in November:
DualSense Wireless Controller (standalone) – US$69.99 (around S$95)
PULSE 3D wireless headset – with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones US$99.99 (around S$136)
HD Camera – with dual 1080p lenses for gamers to broadcast themselves along with their epic gameplay moments US$59.99 (around S$81)
Media Remote – to navigate movies and streaming services with ease US$29.99 (around S$40)
DualSense Charging Station – to conveniently charge two DualSense Wireless Controllers US$29.99 (around S$40)
Microsoft announced pricing and release date information for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S last week. As it stands, the S$459 Xbox Series S remains the cheapest option for next-generation gaming.
