The wait is almost over, it seems.

A Sony event is reportedly scheduled for early June, featuring an exciting lineup of next-generation PlayStation 5 games. According to VentureBeat writer Jeff Grubb, the event was previously scheduled for June 4, but has been moved back to a more nebulous date.

Grubb is a reliable industry inside at this point, having previously leaked details for events like March’s Nintendo Direct and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2's announcement. According to him, the upcoming June event won’t just focus on first-party PlayStation 5 games (none of which have been announced yet).

Interestingly, Sony president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida recently hinted at an upcoming PlayStation 5 reveal event as well. During a corporate strategy meeting, he said:

.... Games for the PS5 that deliver this new game experience are being made by both first and third-party developers and we plan to introduce a compelling line-up of titles soon.

That isn’t all Sony has planned for this summer, however. According to Grubb, the company is putting together a State of Play presentation for August, which will, “highlight a combination of current and next-gen games.” After a year-long strategy of slowly drip-feeding information on the next-gen console, it looks like Sony is finally ready to kick things off.

Of course, Microsoft won’t just be twiddling their thumbs during all of this. The company has already announced Xbox 20/20 monthly events, and it looks like the next one will take place on June 10, 2020. Reportedly, the June event will show off more of the Xbox Series X console. In July, Microsoft will show off more first-party games for the next-gen console, including Halo Infinite.

So, that’s Sony and Microsoft settled - but what about Nintendo? Apparently, Nintendo will skip out on their annual June presentation entirely, instead choosing to pepper in announcements throughout summer. Nintendo’s upcoming slate of games will likely get the Paper Mario: The Origami King treatment - that is, announced suddenly and without much build-up.

We already know that multiple classic Super Mario games are getting remastered for the Nintendo Switch, but Grubb confirmed that Pikmin 3 Deluxe is also on the way! Reportedly, Riot Games and Blizzard Entertainment are both planning events for later in the summer as well.

What PlayStation 5 games might we see revealed in June? We know that a Horizon Zero Dawn sequel is in the works, for one.
