Philips claims Fitbit, Garmin and other wearable brands violate its patents
Fitbit, Garmin, Ingram Micro, Maintek Computer and Inventec Appliances are accused of violating patents by Philips and its North American unit.
Philips and Philips North American stated in their complaint that Fitbit, Garmin and the other wearable brands have infringed on their patents or misappropriated its intellectual property. As a result of the alleged patent violations, Philips is calling for tariffs or an import ban.
The U.S International Trade Commission will be investigating these claims. It has not made any decision on the merits of the case and will make its determination at the earliest practicable time.
In response to a request for comment by Reuters, Fitbit shared that it will defend itself vigorously as the allegations are without merit and a result of Philips' failure to succeed in the wearables market.
