The Pebble E-Paper smart watch, which is the most funded Kickstarter project at more than US$10 million, is finally available for purchase in Singapore. Leader Radio Technologies, the sole distributor of Pebble in Singapore, also launched the pebble.sg,an exclusive club for Pebble owners.

Priced at S$249, the Pebble E-Paper smart watch can be purchased at selected Challenger, Courts, Digital Style, EpiLife and Newstead Technologies stores. Consumers can purchase the gadget from all stores of DG Lifestyle, EpiCentre, Harvey Norman, Nubox and SingTel.

In conjunction with the retail availability, Leader Radio Technologies also introduced the pebble.sg, an exclusive club for Pebble users in Singapore. It is a platform where users can discuss anything about the device, and enjoy the following benefits:

Pebble owners who have purchased the devices from authorized retailers can register themselves at www.pebble.sg. Existing Pebble users can also register for a fee of S$60.

The E-Paper smart watch is compatible with Apple and Android devices. It connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) technology and sports a 1.26-inch LED backlight display with a resolution of 144 x 168 pixels. As it uses an e-paper display, the smart watch is able to last up to 7 days of usage on a single charge. In addition, it allows reading in direct sunlight.

It is also rated 5 ATM for water resistance, which makes it suitable for use during swimming, jogging in the rain and showering. Pebble users can check incoming calls, emails, text messages, WhatsApp, Facebook messages, control music playback and supports notifications from other commonly used apps right from the device. They can download the Pebble App Store on their smartphones to install watch apps and watchfaces.

Pebble started off as a Kickstarter project in 2012. The first 200 backers who pledged US$99 or more received a jet black E-Paper smart watch for their investment. Subsequently, a pledge of US$115 gave a backer one black unit, US$125 a unit in one of the several colors and higher pledges promising multiple watches with other offers such as a custom watch face for pledges above US$1,250.

Due to overwhelming demand and production issues, Pebble only managed to begin shipment on January 23, 2013. In April 2013, Pebble released the software development kit (SDK) for third-party developers to code apps. Earlier this year, Pebble introduced the Steel at Consumer Electronics Show 2014 which replaced the plastic case with a milled stainless steel case with Corning Gorilla Glass protecting the watch's face.
