It’s been a mere few months since we saw Parallels Toolbox 4.5. Back then, it was the interface that was the focus of the update, along with improvements to several tools based on time management and video downloading.

Now we are looking at the release of Parallels Toolbox 5.0 that has four new Windows and five new Mac tools added. Three of the tools are used by both operating systems with one additional tool for Windows and two for Mac.

The new Windows and Mac tools include:

Generate your own unique barcode. Image courtesy of Parallels.

Barcode Generator: This tool generates all kinds of codes, including QR codes, and UPC codes etc.

Instantly recognise any barcode. Image courtesy of Parallels.

Barcode Reader: Users can either drag an image onto the tool or simply bring the code in front of the camera to instantly recognise a barcode.

Edit any text, even those in images. Image courtesy of Parallels.

Recognise Text: This tool converts an image of text into real, editable text. So, users don’t have to re-type text from an image.

The extra Windows tool is: Capture any colour you come across. Image courtesy of Parallels.

Measure Colour: The new Windows tool, Measure Colour, behaves just like a colour eyedropper, which is so common on the Mac so you can obtain the colour of any item you can see onscreen.

The additional Mac tools are:

Easily capitalise any text. Image courtesy of Parallels.

Transform Text: The Transform Text tool enables users to easily perform common case-changing operations like converting to all upper case, or “sentence case” or “title case”.

Focus on Window: Mac users run more apps simultaneously and use more open windows than Windows users. So, the new Focus on Window tool highlights one window and dims the rest of the open windows, making it far simpler to focus on the work at hand.
