LG has announced a high-resolution music service for owners of its premium smartphones, tapping into a growing demand for higher fidelity music amongst audiophiles and music buffs. The new service will be available this month and will be introduced via LG’s SmartWorld app on select LG phones and at LG’s website in Singapore.

According to LG, the service will deliver audio quality that trumps even that of CDs. It has a bit rate and sampling rate of 24-bit/192kHz, compared to 16-bit/44.1kHz on a CD. In addition, the high-res audio options on music streaming services like Tidal and Deezer are actually still limited to the same 16-bit/44.1kHz on CDs, so serious audiophiles may come to appreciate LG's new service. Owners of eligible smartphones will be able to download two such tracks for free every month, with the option to purchase more songs at half the regular price.

Compatible LG phones with 24-bit music playback capability include the LG G4, G3, G2, G Pro2 and G Flex2.
