Overheard: AMD to Launch their First 28nm GPUs this December?

According to German website heise.de, AMD will be launching its first GPus manufactured by the 28nm process technology in December. It is not known whether the GPUs will be targeted at the notebook or desktop markets.

Pending a successful launch, AMD would be the first off the blocks to release 28nm GPUs, albeit the scale of the launch would be small as its target audience would be the OEMs and hardware reviewers. It is uncertain if the GPUs launched would be high-end ones or just mid-range products for desktop graphic cards.

Earlier this month, AMD officially launched its new Bulldozer processors, the FX series featuring two eight-core CPUs and one 6-core offering. Hence, if AMD launches new GPUs for high-end desktop graphic cards, it will make an excellent pairing with the FX series processors for its Scorpius gaming platform.
