The original creators of the Civilization series are back and making new games

MicroProse has been acquired by David Lagettie, one of the pioneers of TitanIM, an open world modelling software. MicroProse was originally founded by Sid Meier and Bill Stealey all the way back in 1982, and gained fame for releasing games like Civilisation I and II, Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Railroad Tycoon

Unfortunately, the company closed down in the early 2000s and a number of its game series, like Civilisation, saw new installments from other companies like Firaxis Games and Atari. This seemed to be the end of MicroProse’s amazing era of simulators and strategy games - until now.

New CEO David Lagettie plans to go back to the company’s roots of producing great simulation games  again, with some expected to be announced later in 2019. The first game already announced is called Warbirds 2020, which looks to be a helicopter-themed simulation game.

What makes this announcement exciting is that Lagettie has also somehow managed to bring Bill Stealey back to join the team developing new MicroProse games. The company is being secretive about its new lineup of games for now, but we could be in for another era of great sim/strategy games!
