Oppo teases its robot dog ahead of its big tech conference
Oppo’s gearing up for its annual Inno Day conference, where the Chinese tech brand announces all its advancements that power its consumer devices.
Ahead of this year’s Inno Day (happening on 14 December 2022), Oppo uploaded a teaser clip of its new robot canine, Qric, to its official YouTube channel.
The clip is light on details, but a few things are clear: Qric comes with multiple functionalities suited for at-home use, and it’s meant to give Boston Dynamic’s Spot or Xiaomi’s CyberDog a run for their money – at least from a broader, mass market perspective.
The minute-long clip showed Qric playing with a child, organising the mess in the house, collecting parcels from delivery people, and helping family members make emergency calls using visual intelligence. A closeup of Qric’s face revealed at least seven front-facing cameras, which were responsible for many of its showcased features (video calling, identifying owners and strangers, and more).
Qric, according to Oppo, stands for “Quadrupedal Robotic with Intelligent Controller”.
Perhaps we’ll have to wait until Inno Day 2022 before we learn more about the robot dog, its complete set of features, and whether it’s more affordable than an actual dog.
