Oppo’s new Reno2 smartphone brings a quad camera to the mainstream

Oppo’s latest phone – the Reno2 looks very much like the original Reno, but comes with an impressive looking quad camera setup instead. With this phone, you’ll get a 48MP f/1.7 camera with 1 / 2.0” Sony IMX586 sensor and OIS, a 13MP f/2.4 Telephoto Lens with 1/3.4” sensor, an 8MP 116o Wide-angle lens with 1/3.2” sensor and a 2MP Mono lens.

The setup gives you the equivalent of a 16-83mm focal length (in 35mm terms) and the option of 5x Hybrid zoom as well as 20x Digital zoom. But that’s not all. The Reno2 also makes full use of NPU acceleration to offer a new Ultra Dark Mode which lets you capture images in lighting conditions down to 1 lux!

The new setup also lets you go closer with Ultra Macro Mode. Using the wide-angle lens, you’ll be able to focus as close as 2.5cm away with autofocus, so you can literally close in on the things that count.

The fin-style pop-up selfie camera can provide bokeh.

Even the selfie camera gets new smarts, as the Reno2 proposes to be the first smartphone offering bokeh effects on both front and rear camera systems for video. And there’s also a native video editing app in the phone itself so you can make your edits on the go.

In terms of display, the Reno2 gets a Corning Gorillla Glass 6 screen with frame thickness of just 3.35mm, a 4% improvement over the Reno. The 6.5-inch 2,400 x 1,080 display is what Oppo calls a “Sunlight AMOLED screen”, with a maximum brightness of 800nits for easy viewing on even the brightest days. It also features 37.5% Blue Light reduction for less eye strain.

Make video edits right from your phone.

Running low on energy won’t be a concern for Reno2 users with its 4,000 mAh battery. It comes with VOOC flash charge 3.0 for shorter trickle charging times leading to faster charging.

The Reno2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G octa-core processor (2.2GHz) and comes with a standard configuration of 8GB RAM and 256 ROM. It comes in colour options of Luminous Black and Sunset Pink and will be available island-wide from 26th October for S$899.
