Oppo today (19 October 2023) unveiled the book-style foldable Find N3 at a Singapore launch, playing host to ~600 tech reporters and content creators from various parts of the world. The Chinese smartphone brand also took the opportunity to launch the Find N3 Flip in Singapore, too.

The Oppo Find N3 combines several of its past learnings with its latest partnerships and technologies into a book-style foldable that goes beyond others.

For starters, it weighs only 239g and measures 5.8mm thin when unfolded, making it thinner and lighter than its main competition in Singapore. The phone still retains a near-creaseless look on its 7.8-inch LTPO AMOLED Internal Screen (2,440 x 2,268 pixels resolution), owing to its improved, third-generation, zirconium-based Flexion Hinge that’s 15% less volume than its predecessor.

The Internal Screen is also certified for 1,000,000 (one million) folds by TÜV Rheinland, and it’s made further durable by its hinge (which Oppo said is 5x stronger than conventional stainless steel) and extra weather-sealing for splash protection. Oppo added that it’s also 36% more resistant to warping this time around.

Oppo also mildly increased the width of its 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED External Screen to make the outer display more like a standard smartphone (2,484 x 1,116 pixels resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio). To make users feel comfortable while folded or unfolded, Oppo said it kept display features identical on both sides (HDR10+ support, Dolby Vision, 600-nits brightness with 2,800-nits peak brightness, 1-120Hz refresh rate, 1,440Hz PWM dimming).

Its Hasselblad partnership shows up in a big way, thanks to its massive round camera housing on the back with triple rear cameras. It’s led by a 48MP main shooter using a 1/1.43-inch Sony Lytia-T808 sensor (f/1.7 aperture, OIS), along with a 64MP periscope telephoto (f/2.6, 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, 120x digital zoom), and a 48MP ultra-wide (f/2.2, 114° FOV, autofocus).

Of note is the main camera’s sensor, which uses Sony’s Stacked Pixel Sensor technology that divides its pixel element across two layers, approximately doubling the image information, widening dynamic range, and lowering noise with each capture.

Hasselblad’s involvement comes in the form of Hasselblad Portrait, giving the book-style foldable the Swedish optics firm’s colour science and XPAN shooting mode. Simply put, the Find N3 doesn’t neglect photography at all.

Global Taskbar (bottom).

Productivity comes in the form of a Global Taskbar, showcasing a row of persistent app icons that’s hidden away at the bottom. Global Taskbar has the App Library and File Pocket (recently used files), allowing uses to pin up to four preferred apps too.

Boundless View.

To milk its Internal Screen further, Oppo has three forms of split-screen experiences: Boundless View (two 7.8-inch full-screen apps separated by the app frame), Three-app Boundless View (three standard, vertical apps) and 15-inch Boundless View (three full-screen apps). Powering all these features is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, along with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

Finally, the ColorOS 13 phone has 4,800mAh battery and Oppo’s 67W SuperVOOC fast-charging technology. It does not have wireless charging.

We’ll share the local pricing and availability once it’s out.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip was initially announced in China (29 August), before making its way worldwide with India (12 October) for its first stop. Today, The clamshell foldable is finally announced for other international markets, including Singapore.

We’ve briefly introduced the Find N3 Flip during our first looks teaser here, but let’s go into more detail to see what lifestyle changes this clamshell foldable can bring.

Oppo reintroduced what Apple took away — a physical Alert Slider on the top left half of the phone (unfolded). The Alert Slider has three toggles: Silent, Vibrate, and Ring.

While Oppo kept its 3.26-inch AMOLED Cover Screen to the same vertical form factor, the brand has greatly widened its useability with third-party apps and extra personalisation tools.

Third-party apps like Gmail, Google Wallet, Google Maps, Reddit, Telegram, X (formerly Twitter), are all fully functional on the tiny outside screen. For Singapore, apps like Gojek and Grab are also available (we’ve also requested for the full list of Singapore apps compatible with this display).

For personalisation, Oppo added 3D animated pets to its cover screen, bringing animals like a bird, cat, dog, hamster, koala bear, panda bear, rabbit, and tiger to the cute roster.

All these come on top of existing cover screen widgets, but it now has a new AOD and the ability to pin three mini-apps or widgets on its main wallpaper.

Find N3 Flip's Flexion Hinge.

The 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED Main Screen (2,520 x 1,080 pixels resolution, HDR10+, 1,600-nits peak brightness) retains its near-creaseless appearance. The crease is made even less obvious than before, thanks to an upgraded Flexion Hinge rated for 600,000 folds.

Flexform Capture returns.

Hasselblad cameras are also available, with the Find N3 Flip touting a triple rear cam combo led by a 50MP Sony IMX890 main camera (f/1.8, OIS). Accompanying that is a 48MP ultra-wide (f/2.2, 115° FOV), and 32MP Portrait camera (f/2.0 at 47mm-equivalent focal length, 2x optical zoom). This clamshell is the only flip phone with optical zoom, claimed Oppo.

A flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset is powering it all, bringing it on par with the Xiaomi 13T Pro, which shares the same chipset grade and family. Battery sits at 4,300mAh, with 44W SuperVOOC fast-charging and no wireless charging.

The clamshell is also rated IPX4 for splash resistance, with the X denoting no certified dust resistance.

The Oppo Find N3 will come in two colourways: Champagne Gold and Classic Black. It will retail at S$2,399 (16GB RAM, 512GB storage). The Oppo Find N3 Flip on the other hand, has three colours and prices start at S$1,499 (12GB RAM, 256GB storage).

Pre-orders for both devices begin 20 October 2023.
