Oppo today (30 September 2022) introduced the Oppo A17, a phone that packs all-day use and a sleek look under an affordable price tag.

Oppo touts an “Ultra-Slim Retro Design” for the A17, which is inspired by newer, angular iPhones with rounded corners and relatively flat edges on the sides. You’d probably find this familiar if you’ve seen the mid-range Oppo Reno7 and Reno8 series. For the Oppo A17, the brand offers Lake Blue and Midnight Black colourway with a leather-like finish and feel. Oppo also added UV coating to make the A17 extra resistant to dust, too.

Photo and video-centric users would be pleased to learn that Oppo A17 has a 50MP primary camera on the back and a 5MP front camera. Features included are 360° Fill Light, Portrait Retouching, HDR, and other nifty tools that help with getting nicer selfies that are well-lit, even in low-light conditions.

Its 6.56-inch, IPS LCD HD+ display (1,612 x 720 pixels resolution) has 60Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, and 600-nits max brightness, making it suitable for nearly all your favourite streamed and social media content.

Other features include side fingerprint and face unlocking for the device and a fat 5,000mAh battery with 10W fast charging. To make the phone last even longer while untethered, Oppo A17 has Super Nighttime Standby. Its algorithms will learn your sleeping patterns to keep overnight battery drain to just 2-3% of its total capacity.

If you’re the sort who likes to share what you’re watching with the whole bus or MRT cabin (you know who you are, also, please don’t), you’d be happy with Oppo A17’s “ultra volume mode” as well. Oppo said that it uses Dirac 3.0 for the A17’s audio signal processing software, although details were light on what “ultra volume mode” actually offers beyond being louder than ever.

Powering these features is an entry-level MediaTek Helio G35. To milk more performance, Oppo has RAM Expansion that borrows unused storage to give you virtual RAM (up to an extra 4GB) for intensive apps.

Interestingly, it has an IPX4 rating, which means it’s resistant to light splashes of clean water.

The Oppo A17 (4GB RAM, 64GB storage) is available from 3 October 2022 onwards at S$229. You can find it on Oppo’s official e-commerce platforms like Lazada, Qoo10, Shopee, and TikTok. It’s also available at authorised retailers and partnered consumer electronic stores.
