OnePlus has just announced the new Buds Z2 which are true wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation and cost US$99.

Sounds familiar? That's because Nothing's Ear 1s are also true wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation and they cost US$99.

Furthermore, Nothing was started by Carl Pei – one of OnePlus' co-founders. Coincidence? I don't think so.

At any rate, the new Buds Z2 will slot in between OnePlus' existing entry-level Buds Z and the pricier Buds Pro.

OnePlus claims the Buds Z2's active noise cancellation feature can cancel up to 40dB of external noise. The three mic-array is also calibrated for noise and wind reduction.

Sound comes from 11mm "bass-tuned" dynamic drivers and the buds can provide up to 5 hours of listening with ANC on and 7 hours with ANC off.

With the charging case, users can get up to 27 hours of listening time with ANC on. Turn it off and that goes up to 38 hours. Unfortunately, the charging case does not support wireless charging – only via USB-C.

The Buds Z2 support Bluetooth 5.2 and the AAC and SBC codecs. It is also IP55 water and sweat resistant.

Availability and pricing

No word yet on local pricing and availability but the OnePlus Buds Z2 is available in the US for US$99 now and will go on sale in the UK and EU on 20 December for  £99 and €99 respectively.

We'll update this article once we hear more. Hopefully, they'll cost closer to US$99 if they do arrive here.
