OnePlus apologizes for messing up launch of OnePlus 2, open sales for an hour soon
Despite the promise of a better invite system and commitment to improve the experience for consumers to buy its phones, OnePlus has once again failed to live up to expectations and is ready to make up for its mistake.
OnePlus CEO Carl Pei posted a forum thread and admitted that the company had indeed "messed up the launch of the OnePlus 2". Besides disappointing the fans and affecting its business partners, OnePlus said that the delay has brought huge opportunity cost such as shortening the product life cycle of the OnePlus 2, "reputational damage" and allowing competition to catch up.
To make up for its mistake, Carl states that the company is considering to open sales up for an hour sometime later this month or early October. An open sale would mean that consumers do not need an invite to purchase the phone. It will continue to look into production and operations to assess the best feasible time to hold the open sale.
OnePlus postponed the launch of its "2016 flagship killer" twice in two weeks. Its initial launch date was 7th September which was then pushed back to a week later with a price revision to S$598. Just two days ago, we were informed by OnePlus that the OnePlus 2 will only be available on 25th September.
