OnePlus 11 5G enables ray-tracing for Tower Of Fantasy mobile gaming title
OnePlus and Perfect World Games (the publishers responsible for bringing Tower Of Fantasy to the Mainland Chinese market) announced a technical partnership that brings ray-tracing to mobile gaming at Mobile World Congress 2023 (MWC 2023).
For Tower Of Fantasy fans and mobile gamers in general, this means that the OnePlus 11 5G can offer in-game ray-tracing for their favourite game.
According to its joint official statement, making ray-tracing available in Tower Of Fantasy was to mainly “improve the visual and performance experience” on a mobile device. What ray-tracing specifically provides to the game includes more accurate capture of shadow and occlusion effects, providing more realistic shadows and a stronger sense of spatial depth to the game’s environments.
For this to happen, both OnePlus and Perfect World Games co-developed a real-time ray-tracing pipeline and a convergence algorithm for ambient occlusion. Most players would already know that this is quite a feat, especially for MMO-like titles with vast amounts of land and in-world objects that require rendering during gameplay – all on a phone.
It also helps that the OnePlus 11 5G comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The processor offers on-device ray-tracing as one of its key technological pushes to this generation’s smartphones. Taking OnePlus and Perfect World Game's joint announcement into context, this also means it’s up to phone makers who buy Qualcomm’s SD8G2’s chip to work with game publishers and developers to avail ray-tracing in popular mobile gaming titles.
OnePlus is showcasing ray-tracing via Tower Of Fantasy at Hall 3, Booth 3M10 at MWC 2023. But you don’t have to fly to Spain to give it a whirl, because you can buy the OnePlus 11 5G in Singapore now.
