The OCBC Keyboard for Android lets you send money to anyone while typing

OCBC has just launched a mobile keyboard — of all things — that ties into their existing OCBC Pay Anyone e-payment services and lets OCBC bank customers send money to anyone just using their recipient’s mobile number. The new OCBC Keyboard is available within the latest version of the OCBC Mobile Banking app, users need to have an account with OCBC bank and be running Android 4.4 KitKat and above.

Unlike the recently launched PayNow service, which also lets you send money to recipients through mobile (and IC) number, OCBC’s Pay Anyone service doesn’t require the recipient to register first in order to receive money. He or she doesn’t even need to have an OCBC account, just an account with any of the FAST (Fast And Secure Transfer) participating banks in Singapore.

Users will need to perform a one-time set up from within the OCBC Mobile Banking app. Once set up, a user can switch to the OCBC Keyboard in any app and tap on the Pay Anyone icon on the keyboard to start a transfer.

The steps to send money will be familiar if you’ve used OCBC’s Pay Anyone service. You select the contact you want to pay, log into online banking, select the account to send from and the amount to send, then create a six-digit passcode to send to a non-PayNow registered recipient. If the recipient has signed up for PayNow, no passcode is required. The transfer will then be authenticated with a one-time password.

The keyboard will probably come in useful when you get that message reminding you that you still owe your friends for last night’s dinner. If you’re on iOS, there’s no need to feel left out — you can already send money through OCBC Pay Anyone using Siri and iMessage. Combined with the ability to also transfer money via SMS, email, Facebook, mobile or IC number, OCBC is probably the easiest bank to conduct online transfers with right now.

Update your OCBC Mobile Banking app on the Google Play Store to start using the OCBC Keyboard, and if transferring money using your smartphone sounds like a confusing mess to you, don‘t fret — we have a friendly guide on the easiest ways to transfer money using your smartphone, as well as an ultimate guide to paying with your smartphone.
