The OCBC app on iPhone X now lets you login using Face ID

The OCBC app on iPhone X now lets you login using Face ID

Are you one of the lucky few who snagged an iPhone X early? And are you also, perchance, an OCBC customer with an online banking account? If so, you can now unlock your account using the power of your face and the new Face ID biometric authentication.

The new feature, dubbed ‘OneLook,’ has been set up for the OCBC Mobile Banking, OCBC OneWealth, OCBC Business Mobile Banking and OCBC Pay Anyone apps. OCBC customers can simply tap on the OneLook icon on the login screens and look at their iPhone X to authenticate access. OneLook works after users perform a one-time activation using their OCBC ID and password.

OCBC says that OneLook was developed entirely in-house, but to be sure, the app is likely building on from OCBC’s OneTouch fingerprint authentication, which allows customers to log in using Apple’s Touch ID technology.

That’s because iOS just asks for biometric authentication from the secure enclave, without specifying whether it needs to be facial or touch authentication. It’s how Face ID works with third-party apps that already support Touch ID, right from day one of the iPhone X’s launch.

For example, if you’ve already set up apps, like 1Password, to use Touch ID, you’ll find that these apps can also automatically use Face ID for authentication on the iPhone X. Even if the app hasn’t been updated for the iPhone X, you’ll find that using Touch ID to authenticate simply switches to Face ID for authentication.

Apple claims that compared to Touch ID, which has a 1 in 50,000 chance of someone being able to impersonate your fingerprint, Face ID is more secure, with a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of another person being able to look at your phone and unlock it (twins notwithstanding).
