Nothing Phone 3(a) has been leaked by its fans and other tech enthusiasts, but such leaks are usually nothing more than fanboys writing fanfiction for a very dry product category.

Indeed, nothing speaks to us more deeply than having the people involved share their passion, which Nothing just did for the Nothing Phone 3(a).

On Nothing’s official YouTube channel, the team behind Nothing Phone 3(a) and Nothing Phone 3(a) Pro shared their process for designing the upcoming phones.

Nothing Phone 3(a) launch?

If you’re wondering why it’s suddenly discussed now, it’s because Nothing has the phones’ launch scheduled for 4 March 2025, 10 AM GMT (during MWC 2025). You can sign up for the launch here.

Per its teaser video, Nothing touched on the following design and handling upgrades that will come to the device:

Nothing has finally adopted a periscope layout for Nothing Phone 3(a)’s telephoto camera. The periscope addition grants 3x optical zoom, 6x in-sensor crop “lossless” zoom, and 60x digital zoom, with macro mode support. It also resulted in a thicker housing to fit the camera. Its predecessor, Nothing Phone 2(a), only had a main and ultrawide camera.

Nothing also teased the flagship variant, Nothing Phone 3, which has not been announced yet. They “showed” the flagship phone with a heavy-handed censorship mosaic that rivals the ones you see in intimate Japanese films.

A bulk of the video discussed its design inspiration and process, but the most functional aspect is the addition of a pill-shaped, raised, dedicated camera button seated below its power button. You can read my colleague's opinion about such dedicated camera buttons when it came to iPhones.

Nothing also moved away from its primarily plastic rear for its midrange handsets. The Nothing Phone 3(a) uses a glass back and aluminium camera housing to help elevate its polish and stand beyond typical midrange competitors.
