Nostalgia meets modernity, this is the all-electric Jaguar E-Type Zero
Jaguar has just confirmed that it will put its E-Type Concept Zero car into production.
Shown last year, the E-Type Concept Zero was essentially a vintage E-Type with electric car innards. The new production E-Type Zero will follow this recipe.
Specifications have yet to be nailed down but last year's E-Type Concept Zero featured a 40kWh battery and has a range of 170 miles (around 270km) and can be recharged in 6-7 hours.
Power output of the E-Type Concept Zero was around 300hp, which gives it very respectable performance. 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds makes it faster than any petrol-powered E-Type though with an electric motor I doubt it will sound anything as sonorous.
Most impressively, the electric motor, battery pack, and all other assorted electronic bits and pieces will slot neatly into the space once occupied by the E-Type's petrol engine and gearbox.
Furthermore, the electronic components will have similar weight, which means overall weight and weight distribution will be unchanged, which should mean that the E-Type Zero will handle just like the original.
Jaguar can also update the cabin with modern instrumentation and a touchscreen infotainment system.
Prices have yet to be determined but numerous sources think it will cost around £300,000 (~S$527,000).
Purists will scoff at this but Jaguar is also offering owners of the original E-Type the option to convert their cars into an E-Type Zero. It will be interesting to see if any owners of the original will take up this service.
