Nokia Wins Lawsuit Banning All Android HTC Smartphones in Germany

The HTC One and other HTC Android smartphones will soon be banned from sale in Germany.

Nokia has won a lawsuit against HTC that will effectively ban the sale of all Android-based HTC smartphones in Germany due to an alleged patent infringement concerning peer-to-peer sharing over Bluetooth and NFC.

The patent in question is EP1148681, which describes "a method for transferring resource information by allowing end users to connect two devices directly over NFC or Bluetooth (but not over WiFi or the Internet) to transfer resource information such as a URL."

HTC is expected to appeal the decision, and Google is also trying to have the patent invalidated, due to this Nokia patent theoretically being a concern to the entire Android ecosystem. For now, however, HTC will have to abide by the court ruling and will be forced to either remove said features from its smartphones or stop selling them in Germany altogether.
