Nokia CEO says the company will design and license phones again

The Nokia Lumia 930 was one of the last phones with Nokia branding on it.

Nokia CEO, Rajeev Suri, has confirmed that Nokia plans to design and license phones again as soon as its deal with Microsoft allows it to. If you recall, back in 2013, Microsoft bought Nokia's phone business, and part of that deal stipulated that Nokia wouldn't make or sell any phones until 2016.

That deal didn't include tablets though, and last year Nokia licensed its name and design to Foxconn who made the N1 tablet. When Nokia re-enters the smartphone market, it looks like it will follow a similar approach.

"We will look for suitable partners," said Suri in an interview. "We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license."
