No, Solid Snake is not coming to Tekken 7

No, Snake will not be coming to Tekken 7

EVO 2019 just passed us by, bringing with it many intense fighting matches and even a couple of game announcements. Unfortunately, due to a poorly executed joke, many attendees mistakenly believed that Solid Snake was coming to Tekken 7.

Apparently, after a particularly good match, Snake appeared on the big EVO screen to say "That was some good-ass Tekken." It even went out of its way to mimic one of Metal Gear's iconic codec calls.

The audience obviously went wild, because what else could it mean? Of course they were announcing that Snake was coming to Tekken!

After Negan from The Walking Dead was announced for Tekken 7, anything seemed possible. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all. EVO almost immediately took to Twitter to clear things up, apologising to everyone for their "little joke" and mentioning they hadn’t consulted Bandai Namco whatsoever for it. One only has to look at the replies to see what people think of the whole mess.

David Hayter, Snake’s voice actor, was not particularly impressed with the joke either. He firmly requested that EVO not use his voice again to promote games he has nothing to do with.

Even Tekken’s director, Katsuhiro Harada chimed in, mentioning that the EVO team has apologised to him, and that he mostly feels bad for both Konami and Hideo Kojima.

A few seconds of Snake has turned into a PR nightmare for the EVO team at this point, with folks at every turn chiding them for their very ill-advised joke. One has to wonder though, what did they think would happen? Good grief.

Tekken 7 isn’t getting Solid Snake, but it is getting a bunch of new characters in the newly-revealed Season Pass 3. Zafina is making a comeback, and a new character, Leroy Smith will be added to the game as well.

And hey, if you really wanna bust people up as Snake, there’s always Super Smash Bros. Ultimate! Hopefully that lessens the blow…?
