Nintendo Switch set for worldwide launch on 3rd March

Nintendo president, Tatsumi Kimishima, announced at a press conference today that the upcoming Nintendo Switch console will be available worldwide on 3rd March for US$300 (~S$428).

The Switch is Nintendo's next-gen transforming half-console, half-tablet device. When you're at home you connect it to a docking station that will hook it up to your TV. The sides of the system can be removed to make a controller, which allows you to play games on your couch like a regular console.

When you're going out, you simply take the system from its docking station and plug in the controller parts again. The game that you’re currently playing will seamlessly transition from the TV screen to the handheld device’s screen.

In handheld mode, the console's built-in display reportedly has a 720p resolution, while you'll get 1080p Full HD when docked and connected to your TV. While in its dock the console will also allegedly deliver double the graphical processing power.
