With millions of people around the world forced and asked to stay at home, it seems like a lot of them have turned to gaming.

According to the market research company NPD, compared to March last year, spending on hardware grew a whopping 63% to US$461 million.

Most amazingly, sales of the Nintendo Switch have doubled year-over-year while sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both grew substantially as well by 25%.

The NPD Group further states that these kinds of numbers are not what you'd typically see in the US during this time of the year.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are both expected to replaced later this year and have seen steady decreases in sales for most of the past year.

Sales of the Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, have also been partly fueled by the hit game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a "cosy" game similar to The Sims and Stardew Valley.
