Why did Doomguy cross the road? To get to the other side, of course. I mean, he's already blasted all the demons on this one to oblivion.

Bad jokes aside, according to an interview Gamereactor did with Doom Eternal developer Id Software (thank you!), it seems we can finally start counting down the days to the Nintendo Switch port for the game. Well, not exactly. We don't have a concrete date yet, but Id's Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin have assured fans that Panic Button, the team working on the port, has been making excellent progress on it and that they intend to announce the release date pretty soon.

The former goes on to share that the Doom port for Switch was something of an experiment for them to gauge the reception for future ports, so at least that cat is finally out of the bag. But experiment or not, it was a great choice - Doom is probably one of the better ports available at the moment. However, while we have no doubts about how Eternal looks and plays on PC or any of the currently supported platforms, there is the question of how toned-down the Switch port will look compared to the others. After all, Nintendo's console is far from the beefiest thing around specs-wise, so concerns about the "compromised" gaming experience, especially with regard to the graphics, are well-founded.

Fortunately, Stratton was prepared for such a query, and he believes that the Switch experience will have no problems holding up to those on the other platforms. That's certainly good to hear, and it seems we can just rest easy until they or the folks at Panic Button come forward with the release date. In the meantime, perhaps you'd like to check out our review of Doom Eternal - it's one of the best shooters we've played!
