Nintendo has confirmed the live adaptation film of The Legend of Zelda

Nintendo has confirmed a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, in collaboration with Arad Productions. The direction of the film has been entrusted to Wes Ball, known for his directorial work in the Maze Runner series.

According to the press release, Nintendo has committed to funding over half of the project's expenses. Sony Pictures will cover the remaining costs and will also be responsible for the film's distribution.

Shigeru Miyamoto, a key figure in Nintendo, shared on Twitter about his long-standing efforts to bring this project to life, in collaboration with Avi Arad. Avi is recognised for his role in the creation of Marvel Studios and his contributions to the Spider-Man films and their offshoots. His involvement in the film industry continues with projects like the upcoming Borderlands adaptation.

The involvement of Wes Ball, alongside his current work on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes set for a 2024 release, adds a layer of anticipation to the Zelda project. Miyamoto's statement also indicates that while the film is now officially in development, its completion might take some time.

No other information of the film is known at this time, whether it will be adapted from an existing Legend of Zelda title, or with a brand new story.
