Nine Windows Phone 7 Handsets Powered by Qualcomm Expected

As more Android smartphones and tablets flood the market, let us not forget about another mobile OS - Microsoft Windows Phone 7. While we won't be expecting any Nokia devices powered by Windows Phone 7 anytime soon, there will be new Windows Phone 7 devices heading our way. In particular, Qualcomm's vice-president of global marketing has been quoted on that, with nine upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices based on the company's Snapdragon processor.

WMPoweruser.com - Speaking to BizIT, Dan Novak, Qualcomm’s vice-president of global marketing may have let slip exactly how many new Windows Phone 7 handsets we can expect this year. Talking about the increasing dominance of Qualcomm’s chipsets he noted: ‘We’ve launched five times as many Android devices as our next competitor,’ he said, adding that the upcoming nine Windows Phone 7 devices will also be based on Snapdragon.

While no time frame of these nine new Windows Phone 7 devices have been announced, nor whether it comes from HTC, Samsung or LG, it seems like a slow year for Windows Phone 7 while the Android machine keeps on going strong. Question is, will Nokia's upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices make a difference when it launches in the near future, amidst a sea of Android devices? We'll keep our eyes peeled for the months to come and monitor the situation.
