Nikon says their new D850 will “exceed expectations”

As part of their 100th anniversary celebrations, Nikon has just announced the development of a new D850 FX-format digital camera. This is meant to be a successor to the D810, and is said to be “engineered with a range of new technologies, features and performance enhancements that are a direct result of feedback from users, who demand the very best from their camera equipment.”

Nikon expects the camera to be a “formidable tool” for a wide range of photographers, ranging from the hobbyist to aspiring and professional photographers who capture landscapes, weddings, sports, fashion, commercial imagery and video.

Given the price of the D810 though ($4888 body only), it’s likely to be out of reach for the casual hobbyist, but we would imagine most prosumers currently holding D810s would be ready to make the switch.

The only details given away in the promo video below are that the camera will do 8K timelapse capture, but the frames from the video do seem to have a pretty good dynamic range. Let’s hope more details get released soon.
