Nikon Bangkok Allegedly Stole Images from Canon Photographer for D800 Launch

Norwegian landscape photographer Terje Sørgjerd achieved some fame the year before when his beautifully shot video The Mountain went viral. He received a rude surprise yesterday when he saw parts of his video being used, without his knowledge, in a promotional video from a Nikon D800 launch event in Bangkok. To add salt to injury, Canon is one of Sørgjerd's sponsors and The Mountain was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II.

Here's are screen captures of similar looking clips in the two videos. The above is the original and can be seen at the 2:12 mark in the embed of The Mountain below. The below is from the Nikon D800 launch and can be seen at the 0:18 mark in the embedded video below.

You can compare and contrast the two videos for yourself. Here is Sørgjerd's The Mountain:

Here is a longer video showing the launch event itself, with the video showing in the first three minutes:

The news went viral on Facebook after Sørgjerd posted it on his Facebook page. It has since received over 400 comments and 400 shares, with some posters identifying clips which have been shown before and are known not to have been made with a D800. But thus far only Sørgjerd has said that he was not contacted about his video's use. We have reached out to Nikon for comment.
